BIGFOOT: Hunters Encounter An Aggressive Group of Sasquatch in the Jarbidge Mountains of Northern Nevada

Jarbidge Mountains, NV from IsuzuGeek.org

This is a report I received from Mr. C of Reno, NV. I spoke with him at length, an find him to be sincere and very credible.

Like many witnesses, he has suffered some psychological trauma from this aggressive encounter. He's a life long hunter and outdoorsman, and now has had little desire to return to these areas, that he has enjoyed most of his life.

As I usually do, I've blocked some specific location details, to keep the exact areas protected.

As for you other bloggers and website admins out there, please be courteous, and not copy and paste the content. Please feel free to publish a synopsis, and add a link to refer your readers to. Thank you in advance.

Here is Mr. C's Nevada sasquatch encounter:

My Stepdad and I left Reno headed for Northern Elko County and the Jarbidge Mountains for his archery Mule Deer hunt he had drawn early on the morning of August 6, 2014. It took about 7 hours to get there as we had to finish some shopping for perishable food items we needed. We really didn't have a set return date for this trip we just planned on staying out there until we had had enough or the season ended. During the 7 days leading up to us leaving Northern Elko County was just getting hammered with rain and thunderstorms every day. The day before we left I had read that where we were headed had received 4.5 inches of rain in 6 days, which for the desert is a ton of water. There were areas up there that were currently flooding at the time we left and much of the northern area of the county was under flood advisories.

We really didn't know what to expect up there and the forecast just kept calling for more thunderstorms every day pretty much around the clock. We were there for a total of 12 days and 9 of those days it rained heavily when the thunderstorms rolled through. It turns out while we were there it rained almost another 6 inches in 9 days. It was a very soggy trip but I tell you this to give you an idea of the great tracking conditions we were presented with if you could find any tracks before the rain got to them.
Jarbidge Mountains, NV from Nevada Outdoor News

We arrived at camp a little after 2pm on the 6th. By the looks of it nobody else had been on any of the roads we traveled to get back to our camp. With as wet as it was it would have been very evident if they had. We got stuck several times trying to get back to the camp. The season started on the 10th but we showed up early to get some good scouting time in before then. We set up a few quick things unloaded the side by side and hit the trails. This was my stepdad"s first trip into this particular unit and he was very anxious to see what country was available to us.

We scouted around until 7ish and returned to set up camp enough to keep us dry if it returned to raining that night. While doing that I noticed a broken tree I had not noticed before. I went over to check it out and was immediately taken aback by it. I was looking at a healthy tree that was still alive except for the broken part that had been bent over 90 degrees and snapped with no damage to any other part of the tree or trees that were surrounding it. It had not been hit by lightning or hit by a truck or ATV or anything like that. I don't know if it’s worth noting but the broken part was pointing at the camp site. Needless to say I felt I was looking at my first tree break. I had no other explanation for it and it definitely happened that year during the growing season as the tree had fully leafed out before it was broken. I've used this camp site 3 years in a row now and it definitely was not there in the previous trips. The tree was roughly 3 inches in diameter give or take and could not have been an easy break. I got my stepdad to help me try to replicate it on other trees of similar size and accomplished nothing. The tree species was a quaking aspen.

After that we ate dinner and set up our cots on the back of the trailer for the side by side, tarped it off really nice to keep us dry and got ready for bed. This is the time I started to feel not right about the situation. I got that nagging feeling of dread and of being watched. The rain had stopped for the last few hours and it was dead silent. In the 3 years I've been there I've never heard it that quiet, it was that deafening quiet. Ever since my first sasquatch experience I always have my flash light and gun by my side at night with no exceptions and tonight would be no different. I had left both in the truck and realized it right before I climbed into my bag for the night so I climbed out of our trailer tarp setup to retrieve them.

Night shot in the Jarbidge Mountains, NV from Nevada Outdoor News

By now we were between two thunder cells and the lightning was flashing occasionally lighting everything up. The truck was about 10-12 yards from the trailer. When I reached the passenger side right as I was about to open the door, lightning flashed and 6-7 yards in front of me was the silhouetted figure of an upright standing two legged hairy man with a slight conical shape to the head. It appeared that it was going from right to left and not directly facing me and then it all went black and an eerie thunder crackled. I must have damn near torn the truck door off the hinges I felt I was moving so fast to get my light and gun, I was freaking out at that point. I mean see something 20 feet from me and have the lights go out like that and see how calm you can stay.

Anyhow, I got my light and gun and saw nothing there when I got the light on which was maybe a second or two later so now armed I felt a little braver and walked over to the road I thought I saw it on and did find some tracks going from right to left. The trouble with that though is that we had walked all over that area and they all looked very similar with no definitive toes. It was just all a bunch of mushed looking prints because it was beyond muddy, most areas had no firmness left to the dirt and mud it was just a boggy mess. So I half ass convince myself that I'm seeing things from the long day I've had and am letting that tree break get to my head a little too much.

I walk back while scrutinizing the entire 360 degrees around camp very carefully with my flashlight and climb into bed. I'll never forget looking at my phone to see the time when I climbed in to my sleeping bag. It was 9:02pm. I shut the phone off and laid there thinking about where and what I might show my stepdad the next day. What began to happen next is what has turned me from a complete skeptic to a complete believer of the Sasquatch.

It was 10-15 minutes tops, from when I laid down and I started hearing movement outside the tarp and began hearing the squishing of the mud under something's feet. It was moving very stealthily and came up to within a few feet of the tarp directly behind my head and stopped. I'm lying there trying to decipher the sound I just heard and the tarp starts being pushed down at my mid section. It was pushed down about a foot and me not thinking at all and really freaking out on the inside without making noise on the outside reacted and swatted at the pushed down area and hit something pretty hard that hurt my hand. The tarp went back up immediately and what was standing there shuffled back and smacked the tarp directly behind my head causing me to let out an “AHHHHHH!!!!!!” sound and I consequently re-chambered a round into my Glock .45.

Before I go any farther I need to let people know that my stepdad was on the same trailer about 8 feet from me lightly snoring from time to time and that he is probably the soundest sleeper I've ever met. I'm convinced he could sleep through the house burning down and a carpet bombing a block away. The way we had the tarp setup was like a burrito with his end tied closed and my side being the open end to climb out of. So now I'm lying there with my gun ready after it slapped the tarp behind my head and it goes dead silent.

I'm not sure how much time goes by during these silent periods. it could be as much as 5 or 10 minutes but I soon hear the one behind me move a little and hear more coming up to the side my stepdad is on. I know there was two of them that came up on his side because two opposite corners of the tarp began getting pulled on at the same time and smacked around. All the while I still have the one behind me and my stepdad is happily asleep. This is the point where everyone always asks me why didn't you wake up your stepdad and why didn't you start shooting? Well I was trying to wake him up. I would call out his name as loud as I felt comfortable because when these things heard you it would amp them up and they would shake the trailer and slap and pull the tarp.

Now as far as shooting goes I wanted to in the worst way, however I couldn't see what I was shooting at and I only had 13 rounds on me I left my other clip in the truck. Knowing there was 3 of them outside I didn't feel shooting would accomplish anything except maybe getting us both killed. I felt the gun probably wasn't big enough to do the job unless I had a clean head shot or two and it was almost pitch black with the moon just starting to rise. Not to mention I had a man asleep that had no idea anything was happening. If I were to have shot at one and they really attacked he never would have stood a chance and I would never want to put a family member or anybody for that matter in that situation. They hadn't tried to come in and I felt it was a scare tactic to get us to come out.

So that crap keeps going on for a while, and I keep trying to wake my stepdad to no avail. During one of the silent periods the one behind me started to urinate just feet from my head. That put a whole new scared into me for some reason. The volume had to be 2 or 3 times that of a man urinating. to me it sounded like a horse or a big bull urinating. I also need to say that the tarp was over 7 feet off the ground were this thing pushed down on it earlier. I couldn't do it and I'm 6'3" and 305 pounds and this thing outside has me feeling like an infant to give a better feel to the whole situation.

After it urinated I was really freaking out. 1 maybe 2 steps from having a complete breakdown. I was shaking with tears rolling down my face and my nose running like a child. I'm not ashamed to say that either. It was truly the scariest thing I have ever experienced in my life and it was happening 100 miles from nowhere in the dark with multiple Sasquatches!!! It got quiet after it urinated for a short time then it started breathing deeply and heavily when I made another attempt to wake my step dad again. It had a real menacing sound to it and then the other two swatted around the tarp some more. It got quiet again and then from in front of me this time another one or more started throwing rocks and debris at us and it was hitting the tarp from all over from in front of me. It stopped shortly after and got real quiet the two behind my stepdad moved back quite a bit it seemed and they started throwing our firewood around and stomping on the ground and breaking tree limbs.

The commotion almost woke my stepdad up, and had me laying there with my gun pointing back over my head hoping they would just leave already but that wasn't happening. It got quiet again and this time it was quiet for the longest and that made me feel better like maybe they were leaving because I heard a lot of movement trail off into the tree line. As I'm feeling better about it the one behind never left and started to urinate again and turned mid way through and finished by urinating behind my head on the tarp and followed that up with a low grumbled growl that I felt reverberate through my body and shook the tarp.

That was the final straw and I lost it. I had a small 3 foot long rake we used in camp in with me in case it rained and I had to push the water up off the tarp. I threw it at my stepdad and started screaming for him to wake up. The rake had an aluminum handle that hit the metal sided cot and my stepdad’s arm then bounced and hit the trailer railing just making a hell of a noise. The one behind me backed off and made some weird noise I can’t describe. My stepdad finally woke up and was pretty upset I hit him with a rake and woke him up. During that time, the ones out in front of me started throwing things again at the tarp. I'm yelling, telling him what's going on and that we're surrounded by these things. He grabs his gun and flash light half groggy and starts climbing over me to go out and investigate. I told him he's crazy and followed because I felt going alone was probably suicide.

We climb out and there's tracks everywhere, good tracks, bad tracks, tracks with claws coming off the toes. Our firewood is everywhere, and a big chunk was torn off a tree from approximately 11 feet up. To my left is the truck and the thickest brush and trees and I can hear one moving in there. The ones out in front that were throwing rocks started throwing rocks at us and the two that were behind my stepdad had come back up behind the trailer and started shaking it. I'm expressing to my stepdad that I no longer want to be there anymore. He simply replied with, get in the truck!

We got in the truck and during that the thick brush 5 yards from the truck started shaking violently and so did a large mature tree. We got in the truck and started to leave. We couldn't leave fast because if was incredibly muddy. We never saw one on the way out. We were both silent and watching out for them on the way out and when we hit the pavement finally, I just shut down with my gun between my legs pointed at the floor in a complete state of shock. I remember my stepdad couldn't believe what little he saw and experienced but he wasn't freaking out like I was. He experienced 5 minutes maybe of what went on and I endured an hour and a half. When he turned the truck on I felt like it had been 3 or 4 hours this was going on and the clock read 10:35pm. I couldn't believe it. He tried getting my gun from me because I guess I looked really unstable but he wasn't getting it he had to settle for me un-chambering the round.

We didn't know what to do after that but we needed to go to the town of XXXXXXXXXX the next morning so we drove there, which was 28 miles north of where we were so I gradually regained my composure and got a really crappy few hours of sleep in the truck in a parking in XXXXXXXXXX.

Morning came. We hit the store then needed to head back to the camp we had left the night before. I fully expected to find everything in shambles and ripped up to some degree, but when we arrived, it looked as if we had never left minus the fire wood being all thrown around.

We started packing up camp because we sure as hell were not going to stay there anymore. We had to get the hitch off the side by side to tow the trailer out with the truck but it was cemented in from all the mud so I had to beat this thing out with a small sledge hammer. It made a hell of a noise up the canyon so if anything was around it was going to know we were there. I have to add that it rained rather hard after we left the night before and all tracks had been destroyed to the point of not being able to photograph them and have them be useful at all so that's why there is no track photos.

It was 10-15 minutes after I got the hitch out we finished loading up. I was loading the last ice chest onto the trailer turned around to talk to my step dad who was talking to me and noticed some movement at my upper right, right at 35 yards away on the low ridgeline on the north side of camp. I turn my head a little more and sure enough I'm staring at a Sasquatch who is staring straight back at me. It was 8:30am against a cloudless piercing blue sky. It had to of wanted us to see it. It didn't appear to be trying to hide and had purposely sky lined itself. Something that everything in the animal kingdom knows you don't do. That's without a doubt the easiest way to get yourself spotted, skyline yourself and move.

It lasted about 4 seconds and then ran up hill into the ravine. This thing was fast and always stayed really low to the ground. It had a burnt auburn, cinnamon colored hair that covered everything I saw on it which was from mid torso on up. It had thinner looking hair on the chest and thicker on the arms. I would have to guess the length at 4 maybe 5 inches. The face had a wide smashed down looking nose with piercing dark eyes that looked recessed back into the head more than you or me. The exposed skin on the face was lighter colored than the hair with a slightly darker buckskin kind of coloration. It didn't have a mustache and had a low wide mouth and jaw line that seemed very robust with a slight conical shaped head that seemed to come directly out of the shoulders with no visible neck. It had very wide shoulders that were probably two or more of me with very large pectoral muscles. This was definitely a male.

I can't really give a good height estimate because it seemed to be squatted down throughout the sighting and even when it left I felt it was severely crouched or running on all fours. 7-8 feet or bigger maybe I really am not sure. I did see a hand when it turned to leave. It swung its left arm up above the ridgeline and you could clearly see a five fingered hand that was quite large. I was the only one to see this as my stepdad had his back turned and only turned quick enough to see the sagebrush moving that it had hit when it ran. We promptly got in the truck and left after that happened.

We left and headed for a forest service campground that was about 8-10 miles away. We figured we had obviously setup camp in an area that seemed to be important to these creatures so we went for something that had been a designated campground for 10's of years already hoping they would stay away. It didn't work but they didn't get that angry attitude they had before. There was a few exceptions but they were way more docile with us in our new spot. I don't remember the order in how the nights played out because we spent 10 total nights there and I wasn't documenting the events but I can give you what happened when they came around.

The first night was quiet but I couldn't sleep for obvious reasons. The night of the 8th I was feeling a lot better about the whole situation as our buddy Mike was joining us for the next 7 days and he has been hunting this particular area for the last 42 years and knows the area like the back of his hand. Having 3 guys in camp was just a good confidence booster because Mike was a light sleeper like myself, and there was one more gun in the mix now. Mike arrived just before sundown on Friday the 8th. We got him all setup in camp ate some dinner and filled Mike in on what happened the night of the 6th and morning of the 7th. He thought we were pulling his leg but quickly realized the seriousness of what we were saying as we were not joking and very adamant about what we were saying. Mike is one of the few people I told of my first encounter so he thought we were joking about that because who does this crap happen to, twice?

Anyway, my stepdad went to bed and me and Mike sat by the fire talking about the other events. After a while we started hearing noises a little ways off and let the fire burn out because the moon was almost full and you could see a thousand times better without the fire. Anyone who has spent time out under a full moon with no canopy overhead knows how bright it can be by a full moon, you can literally read a book by the moon light if you wanted to. The noise kept creeping in closer and got that distinct bipedal signature to it.

Mike couldn't believe what we were hearing. He immediately asked me if I had my gun and I assured him I did and suggested he get his. So we were sitting there and this thing sounded really close, it also sounded like there was just one but I've thought that before and don't believe they travel alone often so we kept listening hard to maybe pickup another one but we never did. So after a while it stopped but we knew it was there because it never seemed to have left. So I turn my flash light on and start doing a sweep around camp. Behind a large tree and bush Mike said he saw a big set of eyes that looked kind of green, so I focused back on that bush and sure enough there was a large set of eyes that appeared to be watching us that looked to have a good 6 or 8 inch spread between them. They even blinked twice before this thing took off running and breaking brush on its way out.

So for the next 3 hours we just sat guard around camp. It really surprised Mike that there was such things happening. He is an older gentleman in his 60's and never experienced anything quite like that. It was another pretty sleepless night. The next morning we went over to the bush we saw the eyes behind and measured up to where were thought they were. It was eight and a half feet up. After that night they all kind of come together into one. There was one night when Mike was still in camp that something came into camp and was walking around and hit one of our ice chests and spun it around. It woke me up a little before 4 am and I was very upset and angry with these things by this time so I just started screaming obscenities at it and it woke Mike up at the same time.

I actually climbed out to confront this thing because it seemed to be alone and it ran a ways into the trees and brush. I continued screaming at it while Mike was getting out of his tent and it clacked some kind of wood together really fast 3 different times. Mike and me start both screaming at it and it busted a big mature aspen in half and left. The tree was ten inches in diameter when we found it at first light and sounded like a rifle going off. It was loud enough to wake my stepdad who thought we were shooting our guns. The rest of the time all we heard were heavy foot falls and bipedal walking around camp. It also always just seemed to be one of them. It was 11 total nights of that kind of stuff and the big encounter at the beginning.

I want to sincerely thank Mr. C for his report, and taking the time to write about his experience in such great detail. I appreciate it, as I'm sure you other squatch aficionados out there, will too.

BIGFOOT: HUNTER'S POSSIBLE SASQUATCH VISIT IN CAMP NEAR SPOONER SUMMIT, NV. TRACKS FOUND

I recently received this report from who I'll refer to as Mr. C to respect his privacy. I'm always really happy to receive reports from NV!

I'm currently 28 and have lived in the Reno Sparks area my entire life. I grew up in a very outdoor and hunting oriented family. My dad and grandfather were always out hunting when ever possible. I never accompanied them but did spend many, many days in the woods with them growing up. My grandfather owns a cabin along highway 50 in El Dorado county California. That is where most of my woods experience comes from until 2010 when my brother and I started hunting hard with our stepfather. November 4, 2012 is the night I started to question what I knew about the woods and the animals that potentially called them home. Before I go into that I want to say that until this time I never had any reason to think sasquatch was ever anything more than a good story and something that crazy people claimed to see. I'd seen the TV shows and the PG film footage from the 60s. They never really did anything for me. I was that person that said well if they are real I think I've spent enough time in the woods and backcountry through out my life that I would have come across some kind of evidence such as a footprint or even just seen one. Turns out that was a very ignorant, naive and closed minded way of thinking. So back to the night of November 4, 2012.
Spooner Summit Trail. Photo from ExploringtheAmericanWest.blogspot.com

My brother, step dad and myself were out in the Carson Range south of highway 50 and Spooner Summit Bear hunting. We weren't using dogs it was strictly spot and stalk style hunting. We arrived on the afternoon of November 2nd. We immediately set up camp and hit the mountain for an evening hunt. The nights of the 2nd and 3rd were very uneventful we hunted hard during the day came back to camp at dark ate dinner, sat by the fire and went to bed by 9pm. The night of the 4th was no different by 9pm my brother and step dad decided to turn in for the night and hit the sack. I stayed out by the fire until 9:30pm to let it burn down to a comfortable level before I decided to turn in.

I was sleeping in the tent we had, my step dad was sleeping right outside the tent on his cot. He enjoys sleeping under the stars when possible. I would have done the same but it was early November at 8,200' in elevation and was frosting heavily at night. I didn't want to wake up with my sleeping bag covered in frost and damp. My brother slept in the back of his truck bed with a tarp draped over it so we were spread out a good 10yds from each other. Anyway I get into bed and lay there for 15 or 20 minutes just going over the next days plans in my head. I can never fall asleep right away when hunting I tend to get myself amped up for the next day and it takes a while to fall asleep. In this case I'm glad I had that problem this night.

As I was laying there I started hearing something moving through the woods to my northeast and think very little of it. There was a lot of deer in the area and it sounded like nothing more than deer moving around 80-100yds away. Probably 30 seconds or so goes by and I realize the noise is getting louder and moving towards us. Its also starting to sound more singular than a group of deer would sound. As it keeps moving closer its really starting to sound heavy so my mind switched to thinking we may be getting visited by a bear. It keeps coming and by now is maybe 50 yards away tops. So I was maybe a fraction of a second from yelling out to let this bear know we were there so it would go away and not be a problem. That's the point when I picked up the rhythm with which it was walking and it made me freeze because it was a distinct heavy footed bipedal walk.

So I'm laying there basically having an internal argument with myself because I cant be hearing this right or so I was telling myself. At this point I reached for my pistol only to realize I had left it in the front seat of the jeep so I'm pretty pissed at myself and pretty worried about what is outside and the whole time this thing keeps coming. It finally stopped 25 or 30yds out and just shuffled a little bit back and forth and I'm assuming it was watching our camp. My brother and step dad were both lightly snoring so I knew I was the only one hearing any of this and was laying there unarmed. So I had finally had enough of this and started yelling out to my brother and step dad to wake up and grab there guns while I was climbing out of the tent to get to mine.

During all that commotion whatever was there decided it was time to leave and left with the same bipedal two legged walk it came in with only softer and considerably quicker back the same way it had come in from. Now everyone is up and wondering what the heck is going on and what's wrong with me. I explain to them what had happened and how I thought a bear might have been coming in but then I could swear I heard it walking on two legs and how close it got and how I left my gun in the jeep. They just kept telling me you know you're tired you are mistaken on what you heard its no big deal everything is fine all that kind of stuff but I remained very adamant about what I heard and how it happened so we stoked the fire back up and sat and talked for a while and then it hit me about what it may have been.

During this entire time I'm refusing to think bigfoot. There had to be a reasonable explanation that didn't involve bigfoot. It did cross my mind but I had no evidence to go on and it seemed way too outlandish. Then it hit me that people knew we were in the area because we had come across a few dirt bike riders and another group of hunters who were deer hunting. I didn't think the deer hunters would be messing with another hunting camp like that plus they were driving in from Reno every morning. These were good guys who stopped by our camp early every morning and sat by the fire and had coffee with us before it was time to hunt. The guys on the dirt bikes were pretty annoyed we were hunting in the area and when they found out my brother was hunting a bear they became unfriendly and really not happy we were there. So I really started talking myself into the idea that somebody wanted us out of there and it accounted for the two legged strides I was hearing. I started making complete sense to me and the two others. My brother and I went out and looked around the woods for any sign of people moving in and around our camp. there was a few patches of snow left from the first storm that had come through about 5 days before that but we found nothing hard that pointed to people being there but it was not surprising given the terrain either. My brother and step dad had gone back to bed after that and I spent the rest of the night sitting by the fire until sun up without further incident.

The day of the 5th we spent hunting and really didn't put too much thought into the events of the previous night. We ended up in a canyon just north of our camp to finish out the day, I believe it is called water canyon. It is just south of Duane Bliss Peak and above Jacks Valley. We were quietly moving through the canyon hoping our luck would change and suddenly these two female deer just walked up on us and fully knew we were there. It was very strange they didn't seem scared of us at all. We kept moving through the canyon and realized there was something that was in the wood line we couldn't see but it kept pace with us. Even stranger yet the two deer kept skirting our side. There were times these deer would come to within 10 yards of us. It was like nothing I had ever experienced. The deer finally moved off and my brother and I had found an older pile of bear scat so we were looking at that and a bear track we found. During that our step dad said very loudly "Holy shit look at that track"! We looked up and walked 30 feet over to a large patch of shaded snow and found a five toed 16 1/2 inch bare foot print. We were completely dumbfounded by what we were looking at. Our step dad just looked at us and said aw that's got to be fake. I wasn't convinced of that neither was my brother. It was a large patch of snow and anyone trying to pull something off like that would have in my opinion left other evidence of that happening.

To go beyond that we decided to follow the track and look for another. Sure enough almost 7 feet in front of that was another print and beyond that another and another. There were 4 prints in total, we found a right print first and then a left in front of that, then another right followed by the last left print. To make it even creepier they were headed toward our camp that was maybe 1/2 a mile away. Then of course that brought up the events of the previous night and washed away any thoughts of people trying to harass us in our camp. This is the point that I finally had to look at the real possibility that there could be something to the whole bigfoot, Sasquatch idea. I didn't sleep that night at all and we left the next afternoon after a morning hunt. That is what got me interested in the whole subject of sasquatch. However I still had doubt even though I felt I had laid my eyes on some credible evidence I always had a nagging doubt about the whole thing.

Unfortunately, Mr. C, nor anyone in his group had cameras or phones with them when they came across the tracks, so there are no pictures available. I spoke with Mr. C for some time on the phone, and I find him to be very credible, otherwise, I would not be posting this report. There's more to come.

BIGFOOT: Christmas Weekend 2013 Sasquatch Sighting, South of Minden, Nevada in Alpine County, California

I received a great sighting report that occurred on December 28, 2013, about 35 miles south of Minden, Nevada, in Alpine County, California.

BIGFOOT: Possible Sasquatch Caught on Video, The Turtleman, and My Return to the Sierras

I am back in Reno now. Finally. My friend Woodrat and I have made a couple day trips up into the Sierras, and really have nothing of interest to report. We explored our usual areas, and ventured out to some lesser explored spots. We were able to stay until 10 PM on our last trip. We heard some distant knocks, and whistles, but took them with a grain of salt. With the popularity of the television show, Finding Bigfoot, it is hard to rule out humans making the sounds I've heard. Unless it is close and definitive, and by "definitive", I mean that if you've ever heard a squatch up close, it's hard to conclude that any other person or animal could have produced some of the sounds I've heard, and felt. Yes, I said, "felt." On several occasions, I've heard some low murmurs and growls, that I could feel vibrating in my lungs. I liken it to being at a red light, next to one of those idiots with the window shaking sub-woofers, blasting in their car, and you can actually feel it. It is a very unsettling to feel your lungs vibrate in your chest. I want to reiterate that it did not happen on this trip, but it has in the past. (Read about Infrasound on Cliff Barackman's site) We actually got so bored that we even broke my rule of no whooping or yelling to try and get a response. That also produced no results. I figured, in the least, if other humans were around, we'd hear a response, but we got nothing.

Aspen and willows coming back in an area that burned in a massive forest fire 20 years ago.

The springs, that usually hold water year round, were dry. These springs are what we attribute to all the activity we've witnessed, as we believe the bigfoot use this chain of springs, as a travel corridor for the area. With them empty, we had no action. One good sign was that there was still a good amount of deer in the area. The undergrowth was dry, and it seemed like there was more Bark Beetle damage this year also. The drought conditions being experienced in the region, really seem to be taking it's toll. With little food, in the mountains, the bears are really on the move. Both times we were up there, we had bear encounters. One came out of the bushes, near a stream, and charged Woodrat. He had just enough time to draw his pistol, and fire off a warning shot, that luckily scared the large bull bear off, from just 30 feet away. It's gotten so bad, that the drought conditions are bringing more bears than usual down into Reno, with 3 captured this past week alone by the Nevada Division of Wildlife.

One of the areas still holding water, away from our area of concentration.

The cold weather has moved into the area now. The ski resorts like Heavenly, Mount Rose and Squaw Valley are glad the season came early. It is more than likely that we will not be squatching on this side of the Sierras, until April. We hope to get out to the west side though for a winter trip or two.

A couple interesting videos were released recently, of possible sasquatch caught on video.

This first one was posted by a rather well known bow hunter, Tim Wells, who has a hunting show on the Sportsman Channel. I have some issues with this video. The squatch looks so fake. On the flip side, the gentleman in the video are genuine and quite believable. If they were acting, they did a really good job. I can't believe someone would be so stupid as to hoax them, while they are on a hunt, unless the hoaxer was wanting to commit suicide-by-hunter. I also believe that Mr. Wells wouldn't jeopardize his reputation to post a goofy hoax on YouTube. So watch the video below, and you can decide for yourself.

This next video is more compelling to me. Though, it's blurry because the camera was focusing on the vegetation between the videographer and the supposed squatch, what's got me is that is seems rather massive when you see it stand up. If it's a suit, it looks well done. The main thing that has me thinking it is a bigfoot, is that at :26 seconds, into the video, the subject extends it's arm to the right to cast off some of the tree it is tearing apart. There are some other negative issues to the video, but that arm length is not proportional to that of a human. To me, it resembles the arm length similar to that of an Orangutan. It is out of focus and it could just be playing tricks on me, but at that part of the video is when I stopped, and thought.... "Wait a minute." You be the judge.....

This last video is of Earnie, the Turtleman, from Animal Planet's show, The Call of the Wildman. He tells of his possible encounter with a Sasquatch when he was a kid. He claimed it was the most frightened he has ever been in his life.

I just want to thank you for your patience. I should be posting more now that I'm home. I'm glad to be back.

BIGFOOT SAMURAI CHATTER: Ron Morehead Presentation In Reno, Nevada This Weekend

My friend John has started a group in Reno for those interested in sasquatch research. He has a great guest speaker, making a presentation tomorrow.

Back in the 1970's, Ron Morehead had some experiences in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, where he was able to record some amazing audio, of what is to believed to be sasquatch communicating in a complex language structure. Within the bigfoot community, these recordings have come to be known as the "Samurai Chatter." For those of you that are old enough to remember, the recordings remind me of John Belushi's Samurai character on Saturday Night Live. I'm thinking that is where the name came from. This would be a great opportunity to hear Mr. Morehead discuss his work, and what studies have been done on his recordings.

Here's the email that my friend John sent out regarding the event:

Ron Morehead, of Bigfoot Sounds, will be appearing at Archie’s Restaurant, 2195 N. Virginia St, in Reno, Nevada on Saturday Sept. 21st.

Time starts at 8:00am
Lecture duration: 45 minutes (approx.)
Afterwards there will be time for Questions and Answers and getting acquainted.

Ron will be lecturing on the subject of ‘SASQUATCH’. His study encompasses many years of research from a variety of resources including personal experiences, and encounters with these ‘Beings’. Learning from different Indian tribes Ron has gained further knowledge about the ‘Hairy Mans’ background . Using a Power Point program Ron will present a display of audio and visuals enhancing the lecture you will find incredible.

This is a rare occasion for us to have Ron J. Morehead visit with us as a ‘Special Guest’.
All Sasquatch Researchers and public are welcome to attend.

This is going to be an impressive presentation that you DON’T WANT TO MISS!

It is encouraged for all who attend to patronize the business of Archie’s and show your gratitude to the waitress that serves you. The employees work very hard and deserve a monetary token of appreciation.

See you on Saturday morning.

BIGFOOT: Recent Sighting Report Near Gardnerville, NV

I recently received a report on a sighting near Gardnerville, NV. It was left in the comment section of Bigfoot Sighting In Genoa, Nevada, which was posted back in 2010. This newest comment/report from july 2, 2013 was left anonymously, as most comments are. I'm leaving out details until I can collect more information from the witness, and I've taken it off the comment section of the aforementioned post. Here are the brief details of the sighting:

This is so crazy still to me, that I came across this blog after today....if it weren't for what my girls and I encountered today, I would have never looked this up! We were in most of the day because of storming outside, and we kept hearing the strangest noises out in the swampy area behind us. After about an hour we decided to go out to take a look. The water fowl started going crazy, and before we knew it, we seen the figure of a gorilla like animal about 300 feet out in the swamp. We found strange tracks, but never would have guessed anything like this! While I am still sceptical. I am really watching now, and the kids aren't playing outside on the patio alone.

I'd really like to follow up and ask a few questions. I'd appreciate it if the witness would please contact me again at stbigfoot@gmail.com. Please know that privacy and respect is of utmost importance to me when handling witness reports.

Thank you.

NV BIGFOOT: A Reported Encounter In the High Desert of Northwestern Nevada

I had Sarah contact me, regarding a sasquatch encounter she had heard about which occurred in Northwestern Nevada. Sarah was able to follow up, by generously taking the time and expense, to travel 2 hours out of Reno, to video and interview the elderly gentleman who had the encounter. At the gentleman's request to protect the location, Sarah transcribed the interview for me to share with you here. I will confirm that I saw the video, and find his story to be believable, in the way he told it seemed genuine. Imagine, a crusty old timer, who lives most of his life alone in his RV in the desert, and likes it that way. Sarah had talked to him before, but she was finally able to get him to share the whole experience with her.

First, I'd like to give a little background on the location.

I've been researching the idea of purchasing land out in this area for the past few years. I had made the trip out there a few times with my brother, to look at land for sale. While we were scouting the area, all I kept thinking about was squatch. Yes, the area is quite arid, as you can see in the pictures that Sarah shared below, but there are so many food and water sources in the area. It is hard to imagine by looking at the pictures, but the food is there. This is what made it possible for the native tribes to survive in this area for the past 2000 years. Nevada is dotted with over 150 individual mountain ranges, with each mountain range creating its own unique biosphere of water sources, vegetation and wildlife. Numerous caves and abandoned mine shafts are everywhere, which could be used as shelter from the elements. If human's can survive out here, why not squatch? Actually it's sparse population and diverse landscapes make it ideal habitat, in my mind.

What sasquatch sightings I'm aware of in Northern Nevada, all have a one thing in common, that stands out for me, the Humboldt River. If you look at the map, the I-80 runs from east to west across the state, at its widest part. The I-80 parallels the Humboldt River from Deeth, all the way west to Lovelock which is over 200 miles. Most sightings in this area, including this report from Sarah, are all within a days walk of the Humboldt. Most notably, Jordan's encounter, the Battle Mountain Fire, and the Lovelock Cave Giants, all have their proximity to the Humboldt in common. Here's what Sarah graciously transcribed:

April 2013

This is an interview with a man who had a up close and personal experience with Bigfoot, we are changing his name and the exact location of the incident.

A man named Mr. Lincoln who had an up close and personal experience in Northern Nevada with Bigfoot.
I was told this story a couple of years ago and did not reveal the story at the request of the person named Mr. Lincoln. It’s been a few years and he is now ready to tell his story.

From his words:

Today is March 26th, 2013.

Q: Describe when this happened?.

A: Approximately five years ago, in an undisclosed location of northern Nevada, The general area is mostly desert sage brush mountains with huge outcrops of dark brown rock, and juniper trees setting within 5 miles within a canyon called antelope. This area is known for its mining minerals such as silver and some copper which was mined some years ago. There is an abundance of wild game there like rabbit and antelope.

Wildlife of Northern Nevada

Q: Is there any water resources or natural refuge present?

A: There is water up in XXXX, which is drinkable and there is water up in the adjacent canyon from XXXX Canyon which you don’t dare drink. Water in XXXX is iffy and XXXX Canyon you can drink.

Q: So tell me what happened 5 years ago and where were you?

A: I was in my camp trailer and it was after dark and I suddenly felt my trailer being shaken , I mean really shaken, like something like a cow was scratching himself on the trailer and he just would not quit. It felt like he was scratching his neck and he would not quit.
(Note: Mr. Lincoln was standing on the top stair of his trailer which was about 2 ½ ‘ off of the ground.)
I opened the door and here was this man that was an ape like creature, only he was about 6 ½ feet to 7 feet tall or maybe a little taller, fairly young looking with the flash light in his face.

Q: So this was at nighttime, and you had the flashlight?

A: Yes it was nighttime and I had the flashlight, but I did not keep it trained on his eyes and I did not want the creature to be mad at me because the flashlight would make him blind.

Q: What did the overall appearance look like, besides the height, coat and how broad was his shoulders?

A: I would say he was a fairly thin guy and was not heavy set at all, age wise maybe 25 to 30.

Q: What was the color of his fur?

A: It looked black, either a real dark brown or black, but I’m going to say it was black. And the hair was long.

Q: How long do you think it was?

A: 6-7 inches

Q: Around the top of his head, did he appear to have hair on his face?

A: Yes he had hair on his face.

Q: What was the color of his eyes, were you able to see in the dark or did you use the flashlight?

A: They did not glow and appear to be just dark in the dark, and dark in the light.

Q: What happened when he shook your trailer and you opened the door, and you put your flashlight on him? Then what happened?

A: I held my hands up similar to this (Note: He held his hands up chest level and portrayed the stop, and stay back motion), so he would not come at me. I then reached back into the trailer and grabbed a gallon of water, with him being in the animal kingdom more or less, they usually look for water and if they don’t find water they can be nasty.

Q: Ok, so you offered him a gallon of water?

A: Yes I offered him a gallon of water and he took it

Q: How far away were you from him when you offered him the gallon of water?

A: 2 feet, arm’s length
Comment: WOW

Q: Did he say anything; did you hear any noises from him, growls or grunts, chirps?

A: I don’t remember any grunts

Q: Was he breathing heavy?

A: I don’t remember it

Q: So you handed him water, then what happened, did he take it?

A: He took the water and I tried to show him how to take the lid off and put it back on, so he can keep the water in
the jug longer, I then pointed to the west and said “DO,” not go, he said nothing, he looked and he walked off in the direction I pointed with the water. Note: “DO” (doe)Mr. Lincoln said that it was Swahili for go.

Q: So how long do you think this meeting with this creature took place?

A: 5-7 minutes

Q: Did anything else happen?

A: No, it was quiet the rest of the night

Q: Was that the only time you seen him?

A: That was the only time I had seen him and furthermore I didn’t fear him, I wasn’t afraid of him

Q: Did you feel that maybe you were put in a trance?

A: No

Q: So if this was in the evening, what time of year was it?

A: It was in the fall of the year

Q: Was there any snow or was it cold yet?

A: It was cooling down, but it was not what you called cold yet.

Q: So was it in October, November or September?

A: If I remember right it was in November

Q: So before the snows?

A: Yes, November out here is fairly warm during the day and time of night 7:30 – 8:00 pm

Q: Did he ask you for any food?

A: No he did not ask me for steak and fries! Laughing!

Mr. Lincoln wanted to add something to his story:
“I know where there is a band of them, and I know where they live year around in that area, but if you want to know where it is at, you will not get it from me. I don’t want you disturbing them, capturing one or killing one for scientific study.”

One last point I'd like to make. Mr. Lincoln's reference to the word "Do," which he pronounced as "doe." I know many will chime in about it. Remember that this man is pushing 80, if not already in his 80's. I've been involved in the mining business for the past 17 years, and I've had the opportunity to meet many, "off the grid" type, crusty oldtimers like Mr. Lincoln. He gains nothing by fibbing, he was reluctant to share the story with Sarah for a long time. I did look up the word for "go" in Swahili, on Google Translate, and I couldn't find the word "Do." Remember, he's an older man, and doesn't like the company of humans for extended periods of time, so we may not find out why he chose to use that word. Maybe he felt like using a foreign language, to the "foreign" creature standing in front of him, was his first reaction. I'm thinking maybe he didn't mean Swahili, and I'm wondering if it is a word from a Native American language. No matter, I believe his story.

Again, I'd like to thank Sarah for her time, resources, and effort she put into getting the interview, and sharing it with me. Though, I'm sure he won't see this, I'd like to thank Mr. Lincoln for sharing his encounter.

Nevada is a pretty incredible place. It's diverse landscape, people and history are severely underappreciated by the general public, and I'm glad whenever I have the opportunity to bring it to light.

SASQUATCH: New Photo Released Of Possible Bigfoot And Why Out Of Focus?

This video showing the picture was recently put out on YouTube. Take a look and judge for yourself.

The guys commenting on the picture talk about the out of focus problem, as with most pictures of supposed sasquatch. In this case, as with most cases, I believe it's the product of an amateur photographer with an amateur type camera in low light conditions. Unless you are savvy to the more technical side of photography, you're probably using a fully automatic, point and shoot type camera. So, in this instance, it was in a darker, shadowy forest setting. There is no apparent sunlight shining in, possibly taken at dusk. In those conditions, an automatic camera would make adjustments to capture as much light as possible. This would cause the shutter speed to be slowed down quite a bit, to let more light in to the camera, to make a brighter image. This would cause the blurring effect of a fast moving object. I believe the background is out of focus because the photographer was following the subject as it was running away, or possibly lifting the camera to get the subject into frame, so not only was the subject moving fast, but the camera was probably moving quickly in order to get the supposed squatch into frame.

Modern technology is a hindrance in most cases. Sightings usually last only seconds. I know with my older point and shoot, it was always set to auto mode, to speed things up. Being an older digital camera, it took at least 4 seconds to power on, then I'd have to raise it up to frame the subject, and if I depressed the shutter button quickly, it wouldn't allow the camera's auto focus to properly adjust, so any pics taken in haste, were usually out of focus. Swinging the camera into position, in low a light setting, like under a forest canopy, and trying to frame and focus on a moving subject, all ads up to blurry and out of focus photographs. With automatic cameras, focus can be a big issue too. Especially if you are in a forest, and your subject is visible only through trees and vegetation, the auto-focus is going to have difficulty discerning what it is focusing on. Especially in the case if you zoom in. Focus tends to be slower and less accurate if there are multiple objects between you and the subject. The only way to correct these issues is to make adjustments to the camera's exposure, and then have the ability to manually focus. Point and shoot cameras don't allow for focusing manually. Video cameras will behave in much of the same manner. In low light, video will turn out grainy or foggy looking, causing the out-of-focus look.

Most of the new entry level DSLR cameras have amazing low light capability, if you know how to properly adjust the settings for the environment your in. For those who are not familiar, DSLR cameras are the ones that have the detachable lenses, such as the Canon EOS line and Nikon D3100 and D5200. You can get these cameras in a kit with lens and bag for $400-$500 at Costco, Sam's or BestBuy. There are many great tutorials, tips and examples of the 1080p HD videos these are able to take as well as the high resolution photos these cameras are capable of.

This is an example I found on YouTube of video shot in a low light, forest setting on an overcast day. Look how clear objects are when focused on. You can get a wider range of focus. In this video, the videographer purposely set the camera to blur the background to focus on certain subjects, to get a more cinematic effect. Photographs are just as professional looking with these DSLR type cameras. This was shot with a Nikon D5200.

Remember, when a person has a sighting, they are not in the clearest or calmest frame of mind. The adrenalin starts flowing, nerves go into overload and in the excitement, fumbling with the camera and getting a great picture would be near impossible, especially if the sighing only lasts a few seconds. Unless you are a professional photographer, or at least a seasoned hobbyist, with your gear set for the light conditions at that precise moment, along with all the other variables, it would be pure luck to snap a decent photograph.

Photography has always been a serious hobby of mine. Economic conditions have just held me back from acquiring new gear. I plan on buying new camera equipment in the next few months, in time for summer in the Sierras. I'll probably post more on the subject of photography if requested. I hope this helps understand the anomaly of out-of-focus blob squatches.

Email me at stbigfoot@gmail.com if you'd like some thoughts about how you can use your current gear to get a better photo when you're out squatchin.

Nevada Sasquatch: How Did You Become Interested In Bigfoot?

Recently, I received an email asking if I knew of any Reno/Tahoe Bigfoot conferences scheduled in the near future. "I am an avid, longtime Saquatch enthusiast." the email said.

I replied, "There are none that I know of."

That is when the wheels started turning.

After a follow up email, I came to know that this person was a woman, Jeannie, and I thought, "I wonder how she became interested in Bigfoot?" It's a subject that is always of interest to me.

I asked her if she wouldn't mind sharing her background with me and if I could share it here. She happily obliged.

Jeannie wrote:

A lil background about myself. I am 51 years old and am employed in the medical field. I am originally from Oregon. Unfortunately, never actually seeing what might be producing them. I have been interested in "Our Forest Friends" for about 30 years. I spend a great deal of time reading all that is on the various sites on the internet to keep up to date and have spent some time hiking in this area since moving to Reno. My friends think I'm obsessed with the subject, but to me there is absolutely nothing more fascinating, and my dream is to finally, one day, see one up close.

Thanks for that, Jeannie.

SASQUATCH: Report of 2 Bigfoot Seen Southwest of Gardnerville, NV

Jobs Canyon, West of Gardnerville, NV

I recently received the following report from a gentleman named Stan:

I may have had a Bigfoot sighting in September of 2011. I was returning in my Jeep from an off road run with the club we had been on in the area above and east of the town of Walker. I was headed back to South Lake Tahoe by myself. It was just before dark and I was on Hwy 88 just before the little town of Woodfords, when 2 large dark brown hairy creatures ran across Hwy 88, about 100 yards in front of me they were moving fast and leaning forward, I thought they were horses until I realized they were on 2 feet. They disappeared behind a berm, as I drove by slowly. There was a car that was stopped on the road that had been coming from the opposite direction, as I slowly went by the mans mouth was wide open in amazement. I did not stop because I did not know what I had seen.

The animals I saw appeared approximately 7ft.+ tall, at least. It was hard to tell, they were moving fast and leaning forward. They had either been in the mountains up s/w of Tahoe or in and around the cattle ranches in Gardnerville. They looked to be headed toward the Carson River or Indian Creek Reservoir.
Carson River near Woodfords, CA

Stan has extensive knowledge of the area's geography and topography as he is an officer in a large off-roading club. Looking back at previous reports from the area, I believe his theory on the subjects' area of travel was on point.

Take the Kids Squatchin!

My buddy Woodrat has been taking his daughter, "Lizard" squatching since she was a baby. Now she's getting ready to graduate 1st grade, and loves getting out in the woods and mountains with her dad, more than anything.

Woodrat doesn't get far off the beaten path with her. He keeps it within her limitations. You don't need to get far off road to get near the bigfoot. Most sightings occur as they cross a road, right?

Here are some pics from one of their recent trips to the northeast Sierra Nevada Mountains:
